"Sonic and the Mystic Mage"

Chapter 11


Meanwhile, somwhere, and still in Sakura Park, Knuckles is still looking for Sonic and Tails with a red Chaos Emerald in his hand, theorizing that either Tails or Sonic must have one of the emeralds and assuming that they must be nearby somewhere.

Just then, an energy spike went sharply through Knuckles' head. He looked down and saw that the Chaos Emerald is glowing a bright red. This must be it, he thought. Tails or Sonic must be nearby. He ran off deeper into the forest following the emerald's signal.

"This must be it!" Miia said as she, Tails and Sonic found a wide grassy area with groves of trees and bushes surrounding it. "This would be the perfect place for whatever it is you're working on, or something like that..."

"Well," Tails began. "For a few months, I've been working on these capsules. You press a button on the top, and a timer is set, and then you drop it, and the timer goes off, and it explodes into any object."

"No kidding...!?" Miia said in awe. "I guess Sonic is right about ya, you are a boy genius!"

"Thanks!" Tails opened his briefcase again to show the capsules. He chose the one with navy blue tape wrapped around it. He then closed the breifcase and handed it to Miia. Tails tried to move his tails, and they moved.

"Are you sure you'll be able to spin them?" asked Miia out of her concern.

"Sure I'm sure," Tails replied as he went up a little higher. "You guys might wanna stay away from the blast area!" he called down.

Miia and Sonic spread out as far as they can go as Tails pushed the button on the capsule, thus activating the timer and threw it to the ground. In seconds the timer went off and the capsule exploded.

Miia and Sonic covered their eyes with a cloud of smoke surronding them. When it cleared, they opened their eyes to see a white three-story house with a red-orange German rooftop with bushes and shrubs in each corner and rows of wildflowers surrounding it.

"Whoa," Miia and Sonic said in awe. "That's like, the most amazing house ever!" she then said alone. "Way better than mine! Mine only has two stories, but still...!"

Tails hovered down to the ground. "Would you guys like a look around?" he offered.

"Would we?" beamed Miia. "We can't wait!" She walked up to the house as Sonic followed her. She then opened the front door and she, along with Sonic, was amazed at what they are seeing. A living room with a cream ceiling and cream and orange-striped wallpaper with a coffee table painted white pink with two white throne chairs and a sofa couch surrounding it, a white cabinet shelf with glass door windows, a front window with pastel orange curtains, white charpeting with white carpet stairs with oak railing.

"Whoa!" Sonic said in awe.

"Now that's what I call exquisite interior design!" Miia said next. "Though I think the orange doesn't go well with the cream... but other than that, it's pretty nice!"

"Thanks, but that's just the start!" reminded Tails. "Wanna see some more rooms?"

"Cool!" said Miia. "I love to explore new places, especially when it comes to two- or three-story houses just like this one!"

"We're with you, li'l bro!" said Sonic with a thumbs up and a wink.

"Okay, then!" Tails motivated when he clasped his hands together. "So which room do you two guys wanna look at?"

"Well..." Miia was deciding. She doesn't even know how many rooms are in this house, or what they are, so she said, "How about the bedrooms?", in hopes of getting Tails to tell her how many bedrooms are there in this house.

"Well," Tails began. "There are around five or six bedrooms on the third floor, plus two bathrooms, also, so yeah, I'll take you there!"

Six bedrooms? Two bathrooms? Miia thought. Something tells me he had the same dream as I had, but I don't know for sure...

Sonic and Miia followed Tails up the carpet stairs with Miia's same "awe" expression on her face. The hallway was fairly wide, there are cherry doors that are around a few yards apart from each other on each side, with white brims and gold knobs. She looked down on the floor. It had the same white carpeting like before in the living room, except that in the middle, there is a pink carpet with rose and thorn trim, which extended all the way up to the end of the hallway.

Tails led the two to another staircase, except that this staircase is spiral, has a strong sturdy metal, and is painted white. Between the railings, there are curlycues with butterflies of different sizes spread about.

Tails and Sonic went up the staircase, and Miia was the last to go. She stepped on the metal stair and set her other foot on it. It held her firmly. Carefully, she hurried up to Sonic and Tails. She looked down to the second floor that they were currently leaving, then looked up to the third floor. To her eyes, it wasn't very high, but from her view, the spiral seemed to go on forever. She felt a little dizzy, but kept her balance to the best of her abilities to catch up with the two humanized animals.

When they got to the third floor, Sonic and Miia could see another hallway with the same wood colored doors, same white carpeting and rose trim rug and white brims, except that, for the doors, there are chrome-nickel knobs. Miia counted the doors in the hallway. Eight doors; no doubt about it, she thought. Wait, Kitsune-chan said that there are six bedrooms and two bathrooms. If that's true, then which of these two doors lead to these bathrooms, assuming that the rest are bedrooms...?


Tails stopped at the middle of the hallway and turned to face Miia and Sonic. "Well, here we are. The two rooms at the end are the bathrooms, and the other spiral stair case that leads to the first floor dining hall, the rest are just bedrooms."

"Sweet!" Sonic said with a wink. Then he turned to Miia, "You could always visit here anytime you want, Miia!"

"Awww, thanks," replied Miia with a happy face. "That was very nice of you guys!" She turned to Tails. "However..."

Tails looked at Miia confused, "However what??"

"Sonic is staying at my house," the red-haired girl confessed. "And you saying that there are six bedrooms is... all the more reason that Sonic is staying here with me until both of you and him come back to your own world. But hey, don't get discouraged, little guy, you could always visit my house anytime you want!"

"Hehe, okay!" Tails said with a happy smile. "I'll come to your house anytime! In fact, I'm think about visiting your house now!"

"Okay, cool, but it's getting late right now, and Sonic and I really need to go home right now, and..."

"Oh, that's okay, I'll come and visit tomorrow when you're at home," Tails said.

"Okay, it's a deal, then!" Miia and Sonic turned to leave, but Miia turned slightly and waved good-bye to Tails. "Bye, Kitsune-chan!"

"See ya tomorrow, buddy!" Sonic said next with a thumbs up.

"Yeah, see ya," Tails waved good-bye at the two as they went down the spiral stairs.

While they were going down the spiral stairs, Miia asked Sonic, "Sonic, how long have you and Kistune-chan know each other; as in do you guys often hang out, or what...?"

"Well, Tails and I have known each other for as long as I can remember," Sonic began. "From the day we met, we were definitely inseparable; brothers from the start!"

This made Miia remember how she met her friends during their 6th grade year in Sakkaki Elementary; they often hung out together and played together when they were merely twelve years old. Sonic saying that made her think that they are like siblings, after all.

"Before we met, though," Sonic continued. "I was running along the shoreline trying to find my biplane that crash-landed on a beach. When I found it, I found Tails doing a paint job on it. Basically, I was a little angry at first, but then he confessed that he just finished repairing it and was repainting it into a different color. Then he confessed that he was often teased alot by other people just because he is a brilliant genius, and that he has very few friends."

"Yeah, I can see what you mean," said Miia, recalling the capsules Tails made in his briefcase.

"I cheered him up by saying that we could be best friends," Sonic continued. "He seemed to beam at it; and then I said to him 'Yeah, kiddo, we could always watch our backs!'. And we have been the best of friends ever since!"

"That sounded cool," Miia said. "You know, I've been the best of friends with Sei, Hiryu and Karin since the 6th grade. So yeah, I guess you can say that we are like siblings."

"Then we have something in common besides having the same magic powers!" Sonic said happily.

Sonic and Miia reached down the second floor, went through the second floor hallway, went down the carpet stairs and went towards the front door, and as Miia opened it, she can see in the horizon, that the sun has three-quarters disappeared. "Emphasis on 'we better hurry'," she said.

"Oh, geez, you're right! We better get moving!" Sonic picked Miia up bridal style, but Miia was getting annoyed at Sonic for constantly doing it to her. "Sonic, I'm not a little kid, you know."

Sonic smiled at Miia as he walked down the front steps and said, "You are to me. You were so cute back then when I rescued you, and I still wonder even to this day how much you've grown."

Miia blushed a little but looked away, frowning. "You didn't need to rub it in..." she whispered. I guess this doesn't support my hypothesis, then, she thought. He isn't flirting with me, just acting like an older brother figure... or maybe something else...

Miia's thoughts are interuptted when Sonic ran at top speed. Quickly, she wrapped her hands around Sonic's neck to prevent her from falling, but she still blushed. Maybe he wasn't flirting with me, maybe I'm just crushing a little-- okay, now that's just dumb. But, I wonder how my friends would react if a humanized hedgehog is crushing on me...? Now I know Karin; she loves romance novels, but then I would lecture her on that, and... and...

"Daaah!!" Miia heard a sound from behind her. She turned her head to see what made it, but all she saw was a small red irregular shape. "It's probably nothing," she said to herself. She then looked at the horizon again. The sun had already disappeared, but she could see an orange-pink glow tinting against the royal and navy blue mixture. She then looked up at the sky. Stars are already appearing, and the moon is there, as well. Why do I get the feeling, Miia was thinking. That Sonic was waiting for the right moment... to carry me home even with his super fast running...? Well, that's sibling likings for ya.

Meanwhile, back in the Dark Chambers, the were-animals are highly disappointed from the last fight with the Mystic Mages, but they were also disappointed in Tweedledee and Tweedledum's failure.

"I cannot believe that you lost again, you guys," Mei Ling said to the were-cat twins.

"Well, you could always blame Tweedledee," Tweedledum argued back. "Because you, all of you know that my sister has a very bad temper, which is partially her fault that we lost." He turned to Tweedledee. "I guess your temper got the better of you again like several times before, even 10 thousand years ago."

"Oh, just shut the hell up!" Tweedledee fired at Tweedledum. "I had no stupid idea that they were learning new spells in the first freaking place!"

"That's okay," Nu'chinh said, trying to break up the fight between the twins.

Everyone, including Fakir, turned to him in shock. "Nu'chinh, what're you saying?!" Mei Ling said.

"Because, Mei Ling," Nu'chinh said to the were-bat. "We will become stronger, too, and we need that to reach our upcoming goal in order to rule the hedgehog's and the human realms altogether." He ended what he has to say with an evil smile.

Tweedledee sighed. "So much for retribution..."

"But still," Fakir added. "We need even stronger Mirror Beasts to so that, so that we could search for the Chaos Emeralds and squash those pesky mages like beetles."

"You got my vote!" Mei Ling said enthusiastically. "Now let's get busy, were-animals! We'll start with the hedgehog and hedgehog girl!"

"But, we musn't forget," Nu'chinh stated. "That we are to report to the Mirror Master withthin five standard minutes, so we must provide it as honestly and truthfully as possible."

The others sounded disappointed, but looked slightly nervous.

Nu'chinh then walked into the darkness and faded. He walked up to a mirror and uttered a word to it. In the mirror, an image of a young girl with blue hair and quills tied into pigtails, hedgehog ears and tail, green eyes, and is wearing a cerulean hoodie with white short sleeves, denim short shorts, and cerulean thigh high stockings. Yes... he thought. You do look familiar... I will never forgive you for what you have done 10 thousand years ago; you were the only one pure enough to wear the Chaos Amulet...

"This must be the place." Knuckles finally found the location of the other Chaos Emerald, but it was in this three story house that Tails built with a simple capsule. He examined the house and said, "Looks like something Tails would most likely do, since I heard a little bit about what he's making a few months ago."

Just then, the front door opened and Tails came out with the blue Chaos Emerald in his hand. When he approached Knuckles, he was very relieved to see him, but was confused at the same time. "So that's what the Emerald was blinking about!" Tails exclaimed. "Knuckles am I glad to see you! But, where did you find the Chaos Emerald??"

"You took the words right out of my mouth," said Knuckles. "But answering your question, I found this in the bushes while I was in a forest, and it led me to here."

"I found it in the bushes, too," shared Tails. "Except that I found it near someone else's house when--" But then he remembered what Sonic and Miia had said to him a few hours ago.

*Flashback*

On the way downtown, Sonic and Miia have been looking for a spot, with Tails riding on Miia's shoulders, where Tails could stay until he and Sonic go back home to their world, continuing their conversation.

"Don't tell your friends, should they even come here," Miia was saying. "About what you saw just now. That'd spell trouble, and the were-animals will find out and, as Queen Arcadia said, strike before we prepare, and even, if possible, kidnap you and use you for an emissary. We don't really want that."

"That's okay, you guys," Tails promised. "You're secret's safe with me!" He turned to Sonic. "Especially when you just recently recieved magic powers!"

"Okay, then, pal!" Sonic smiled with a thumbs up.

*End of flashback*

"Uh, I just found it near someone's house," Tails then noticed the red brown crystal around Knuckles' neck. Must he be one of these Mystic Mages Miia and Sonic told me about?? he thought. "Hey, Knuckles, where did you get that?"

"What, you mean this?" Knuckles held out the crystal. "I, uh... to be honest, I really don't know. All I know is that it suddenly appeared around my neck when we came here."

"I know, I know, and we got separated in the process. But still, I'm so glad that I found you, and you're glad you found me, right?"

"I know that, and you know that." Knuckles then thought about Sonic's whereabouts. Then he said, "Have you seen Sonic?"

He's probably onto something, Tails thought. Most likely about Miia and Sonic's secret, so....

"Yeah, I saw him," he said at last. "Him and Miia, also."

Knuckles looked at the little fox confused. " 'Miia'?" It turns out that he knows a little bit about her, because he read about the incident once on the headlines sixteen years ago.

"Sonic's new friend," Tails explained. Then he giggled a little. "She even gave me a new nickname; Kitsune-chan!"

Knuckles became even more confused. " 'Kitsune-chan'...?"

Tails explained more, "She said so that she is a tomboy, and because she thinks that I'm cute."

"[scoffs] Just because you're a fox??" Knuckles finished for Tails.

"Yeah, just because I'm a fox," Tails confirmed. "Oh, and, uh, you're probably wondering where this house came from; it's from one of the capsules I've been working on for a few months. So that way, we can stay here, until we find the Chaos Emeralds, and return home!"

"Would you mind showing me the, uh, bedrooms?" Knuckles inquired. " 'Cuz I'm a little tired right now..." He stretched his arms. "...'cuz the strong energy from the Emeralds drained me a little bit, and..."

"Well, there's bedrooms on the third floor, plus two bathrooms," Tails suggested. "I'll show you the way!"

"Cool, thanks, Tails!"

"Hehe, it's what I do, Knuckles," Tails said. "It's what I do."
