"Sonic and the Mystic Mage"
Chapter 1
~Ten months after the events in the Metarex saga~


On a beach under a moonlit night, there was a blue hedgehog standing on the edge of the shoreline. The blue hedgehog--Sonic the Hedgehog--was confused about where he is and how did he get here.

Then almost suddenly, Sonic saw a young girl [mostly] in gold floating down, her red boots barely touching the water. "Sonic..." the girl said.
        
Despite him being confused, Sonic didn't say anything.
        
"Sonic..." the girl said again.
        
"H-how do you know my name?" Sonic asked, still confused.
        
"I'm sorry, Sonic," said the girl sadly. "I am very sorry. Goodbye."
        
"You're not making sense," Sonic then said. "Then again, how did you know my name? Also, who are you?"
        
"We are both different from each other, yet the same," the girl finally said.
        
Before Sonic could say anything, the girl said, "And the sad part is..."
        
The girl mouthed something to finish her sentence, but Sonic couldn't understand it.

Sonic quickly woke up gasping. He then looked out the window and the sun was half up. Sonic plopped down on his bed and sighed. "That dream again.." he mumbled. "That's the third night in a row. What is that girl trying to tell me? Then again, what was that she said at he end?"


Sonic got out of his bed and stretched out the sleep from his body and takes his shower. After he's done, he went back to his room, dries his fur with a towel, put on his red shoes and then went downstairs to his kitchen. On the counter, he spotted a plastic bag. When he opened it, it was cheesecake in a plastic wrap. On it lies a note. Noticing it, Sonic picked it up and the note said, "I made this cheesecake for you!". Sonic looked at the signature and found it was from Amy Rose.
      
Heh, what are the odds? Sonic thought happily as he unwrapped the cheesecake.

He cut a slice for himself and sat down to eat it. When he was done, he put the plastic wrap on the remaining cheesecake and put in the fridge. Sonic then went to his living room and looked out he window. The sun has risen completely, so Sonic has decided to go for a really, really fast run to Tails' workshop/house for a visit.

"Hiya, lil' buddy!" Sonic said happily as he arrived at the workshop.

" 'Morning, Sonic!" said Tails as he turned around, happy to see Sonic.

"Wa'tcha workin' on, pal?" Sonic inquired.

"Just a cloaking device," answered Tails. "I believe I--or in your case, we--can use that as our advantage, just in case Eggman either attacks us, or even attempts to steal the Chaos Emeralds from us."

"Sweet!" exclaims Sonic with a wink.

"But, it's only a prototype," Tails confessed.

"Hey, don't get discouraged," said Sonic. "I've known ya too long to give up being a really cool genius. Besides, I'm sure you'll perfect it sooner or later."

"Thanks for the encouragement, Sonic," said Tails gratefully.

"My pleasure, pal," said Sonic with a thumbs-up.

Sonic eyed the plant on Tails' work table. It is getting bigger from the last ten months Sonic, Tails and the rest of his friends could remember.
        
Finally, Sonic said, "Looks like your plant's getting bigger."

"I know," said Tails.

"Tails, I've been wondering..." Sonic began. "When it gets large enough, maybe we should plant it outside your house."

"Really?" Tails beamed at the suggestion

"Really."

"Thanks, Sonic," said Tails. I wonder what the plant would be, he thought. Possibly Cosmo, or else a large tree.

"Well, then," Sonic began. "I'm gonna go visit Knuckles. You wanna come along?"

"Well, I have been spending a lot of time on the cloaking device," Tails admitted. "So yeah, I guess I'll come with you."

"Cool; let's go then!" said Sonic enthusiastically.

Knuckles was guarding the Master Emerald, as usual, but he was sleeping on the job like a few times before, only this time, he is snoring. During his third round of snoring, though, a leaf fell into his mouth and caused him to choke on it, forcing him to wake up.

Knuckles yawned and rubbed some sleep out of his eyes, happy to see that the Master Emerald is safe and sound (despite the last few times it was either stolen or he fell asleep on the job). He then turned front, still on the lookout when he saw Sonic and Tails. Knuckles was just about to say hi until he sense an energy spike coming the Emerald.  

"Hey, Knuckles!!" Sonic called.

Knuckles turned around fast said almost casually, "Oh, hi, Sonic, hi Tails!"

"Why's the Emerald glowing?" Sonic asked as he and Tails approached to Knuckles.

"That's what I've been wondering about," Knuckles confessed. "It's been glowing on and off for four days in a row. Only today, it is a little more powerful than the previous three days."

"Hmmmm...." Sonic began. "From what you said, it sound suspicious."

"Yeah, that's what I tought," said Knuckles. "That being the case, I think we should put a safety barrier around it just in case--"

Knuckles was cut off when the Master Emerald glowed harshly. In an instant, Knuckles, Sonic and Tails covered their eyes.

"Ughh... now what's going on?!" asked Tails.

"It's glowing even more brightly now!" shouted Knuckles.

Sonic uncovered his eyes a little to see what's going on. In the Master Emerald, he saw a girl figure, almost similar to the one in his dream a few nights before. Realizing this, Sonic slowly walked to the Emerald.

"Sonic, what are you doing?!" Knuckles yelled.

"It's too dangerous!" Tails yelled also.

Somehow ignoring them, Sonic stared at the girl figure. I've seen you before, he thought, then he touched the Master Emerald automatically. Then in a harsh flash of light, Sonic screamed and disappered suddenly. Knuckles and Tails uncovered their eyes to see that Sonic had already disappeared.

"What in the world was that just now?!" Tails asked

"Chaos Control, maybe?" Knuckles said. Only this time, it wasn't normal Chaos Control, he thought. It felt a little... different for some reason...
